Swedish linen oil painting or ocher painting

This Swedish linen oil paint finishing both ecological and economical, has been used in Scandinavia for more than 300 years to paint wood cladding, woodwork, windows and exterior doors. The making of this paint is easy to achieve, requires only a few products, and is very easy to use. There is nothing more satisfying than making your own linseed oil paint while getting an amazing result.

List of ingredients:


  • Bring 7 litres of water to a boil;
  • Dilute the flour in 1 litre of water and mix;
  • Mix 15 minutes;
  • Add the pigments and the iron sulfate;
  • Mix for 15 minutes;
  • Add doubly boiled linseed oil;
  • Mix for 15 minutes;
  • Add the Black Soap;
  • Cool, the paint is ready for application;
  • Dilute with a little water if the paint is too thick.


Do not apply in the sun or over damp wood. The minimum temperature must be 5 ° C. Use a brush for the application.


Two layers are needed for good protection. The paint dries in 1 hour, wait 24 hours between applications.


Very durable, this painting has a lifespan of 8 to 10 years. To reapply, take care to clean your surface with a suitable cleaning product. Sand with a 120-grit paper to give a little bite and apply two coats of paint.
