Talc is a hydrated magnesium silicate. Talc has an opacifying power that gives the matte and satin texture to whitewashes, coatings and paints.
It is used as a stent to improve the hiding power and efficiency of titanium dioxide. Its very fine texture facilitates the application of paints and its addition improves the resistance to cracks and dripping.
Talc gives flexibility and creaminess to artist’s paintings. It is mainly used to give an opacifying power to gouaches. When mixed with gum arabic and powdered pigments, it provides a natural and traditional gouache.
