Dewaxed Flakes Shellac – Evo

Natural finishing product in soluble flakes in the Lacquer Thinner (denatured alcohol). Shellac is rather an organic resin secreted by an insect lacifera laca.

Dewaxed flakes shellac, simply diluted in denatured alcohol, serves as a varnish and is used in many natural varnishes. The dewaxed flakes shellac varnishes are used to erode polish buffers, they are often found on musical instruments.

Can be used as a primer (sealant) to seal and provide more uniform dye penetration without raising the grain of the wood. Also used as a protective varnish, interior only. Dewaxed gums are brighter than waxed gums.

Primer or sealer:

Proportions suggested: 50g of shellac for 500ml of Thinner for Lacquer Gums (denatured alcohol). Mix until completely dissolved (15 min to 4 hours depending on the chosen shellac colour). Use the decoated shellac to create your primers.

Application:

The surface must be clean and dry.  Apply with a brush or with the polishing cotton, following the grain of the wood. The drying time is approximately 30 minutes. Once dry proceed to tinting.

Varnish:

Proportions suggested: 200g to 300g of shellac per liter of Thinner for Lacquer Gums (denatured alcohol). Mix until completely dissolved (15 minutes to 4 hours depending on the chosen shellac colour). Mix the container every 15 to 20 minutes. To make an easy application varnish: dissolve 150g of shellac in 1 liter of denatured alcohol.

To make a regular polish: dissolve 200g of shellac in 1 liter of denatured alcohol.

To make a solid varnish: Dissolve 300g of shellac in 1 liter of denatured alcohol. Used to seal the knots. Application: The surface must be clean and dry. Apply with a varnish brush following the grain of the wood. Apply in successive layers until the desired finish is achieved. Wait at least 20 minutes between coats. To obtain a very smooth finish. sand lightly between applications using extra fine sandpaper (400 and higher).

Other uses:

As intermediate layer; allows to apply a varnish to a waxed surface! Apply a layer of shellac on a waxed surface. Once the shellac dries. apply the chosen varnish (with oil or water).

Conservation:

Keep your prepared shellac in a dark glass container away from light and your dry Shellac in its original packaging.
